budgeteer v0.1 · private alpha

Invite only

Every dollar in a bucket.

An envelope budgeting app with bank sync and assisted categorization. Private alpha; invite only.

00 / about

What it is.

Envelope budgeting assigns every dollar a job before it's spent. Each category is a bucket: rent, groceries, the trip in October. When you spend, you spend from a bucket. When a bucket runs out, you stop or move money in from another.

Budgeteer adds automatic bank sync, assisted categorization, and a small set of reports.

Speak transactions, ask for balances, and describe goals in conversation.

01–08 / features

Features.

01 / buckets

Zero-based envelopes.

Assign every dollar to a category. Buckets roll over month to month. When one runs dry, you either stop spending or move money in from another.

→ nested categories · monthly rollover · move-money in two clicks

02 / targets

Targets per bucket.

Set a target on any bucket: refill to $X each period, set aside $X each period, or save $X by a date. Configurable periods: weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly, thrice-weekly, whatever. Budgeteer surfaces which buckets are underfunded for the current period.

Describe a goal in plain language and the assistant proposes a plan: new buckets and targets, adjustments to the ones you already have, and where in your spending you'd likely need to make room.

→ refill · set-aside · save-by-date · configurable period · AI goal planner

03 / bank sync

Bank sync.

Connect a Canadian bank, credit cards, and cash accounts. Transactions import automatically; balances reconcile; broken connections get surfaced quickly

→ Plaid · daily refresh · split transactions · manual fallback

04 / iPhone companion

Voice capture, Siri queries.

Open the app and speak a transaction. "Forty bucks groceries at Loblaws" becomes a pending entry that reconciles when the bank sync catches up. Siri answers queries without unlocking the phone.

Or set up an Apple Pay Shortcut: tap at checkout, Budgeteer opens with the amount pre-filled, you pick the bucket.

→ voice-to-text capture · Siri bucket queries · Apple Pay Shortcut (amount pre-fill)

05 / categorization

Assisted categorization.

An LLM reads the bank memo, picks a likely bucket, and rewrites the payee into something readable. It learns from your corrections.

→ per-user learning · payee normalization · always confirmable

06 / credit cards

Credit cards, fully funded.

Spend on a card and the money moves out of the category bucket and into the card's payment bucket. By statement time, the payment is already set aside.

→ per-card payment bucket · overspend warnings · pay-in-full by default

07 / age of money

Age of money.

The average age, in days, of the dollars you spent today. Higher means you're spending money you earned a while ago, not money that just landed.

→ daily snapshot · charted over time

08 / auto-tune

Auto-tune buckets.

Pick a date window and set each bucket's monthly amount to your real average. Useful as a starting point, or as a sanity check.

→ tunable window · per-category override · undoable
